Riches, Faith, Community and Justice

What a joy it has been to begin serving as your bridge pastor. Thank you for your enthusiastic welcome!

The temperatures will cool as we get into October, but the scriptures we’re reading together on Sundays are plenty warm, some even a little heated while Jesus is on his way to Jerusalem to give his life for the sake of the world.

Over the next four weeks, Jesus will teach about riches, faith, community, and justice. These were significant and controversial issues for faithful people in ancient times, and they can be for us as well.

And while we’re pondering the stories of the rich man and Lazarus, the mustard seed, the cleansing of the lepers, and the unjust judge, you’re praying and discerning who you are as a congregation and discussing the kind of spiritual and missional leadership you’re seeking as you prepare to call a new pastor. Wow!

As your bridge pastor, I’m not involved in your call process at all, but I wonder if your discernment and discussions are bringing up any questions that we could consider in our upcoming sermons.

For when Jesus teaches about money, do you have any questions about congregational generosity or stewardship?

For when Jesus teaches about the power of faith and hope, do you have any questions about the role of the church in civic life?

For when Jesus teaches about cleansing the lepers, do you have any questions about healing, wholeness and community?

For when Jesus teaches about the unjust judge, do you have any questions about justice and righteousness?

Your questions are welcome! Feel free to email me at pastor@gracemtprospect.org, talk to me after worship, or slide something under my door.

See you in worship!

Pastor Robin
